Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is ABA Therapy?
ABA, or Applied Behavior Analysis, is a scientific approach to understanding how behavior is influenced by the environment. It focuses on identifying the reasons behind specific behaviors and using positive techniques to increase desired behaviors and reduce challenging ones. ABA therapy is highly individualized, breaking down skills into smaller, manageable steps and teaching them systematically. It is widely recognized as the gold standard treatment for autism spectrum disorder.
How does the assessment and treatment planning process work?
The process typically begins with a comprehensive assessment, often involving an initial intake session and a parent consultation. Our BCBAs gather detailed information about your child's history, current skills, and challenges. This leads to the development of an Individualized Treatment Plan (ITP). The ITP outlines specific, measurable goals tailored to your child's unique needs and your family's priorities, along with the strategies and techniques to be used.
How long does ABA therapy typically take?
The duration of ABA therapy varies significantly depending on the child's age, the complexity of needs, the goals set, and the family's commitment to the program. Many children benefit from intensive therapy (e.g., 20-40 hours per week initially) for a period, followed by less intensive maintenance therapy. Progress is regularly reviewed, and the treatment plan is adjusted as needed. Some children may require years of therapy, while others may show significant improvement in a shorter timeframe.
What qualifications do your therapists have?
All of our direct therapy technicians are trained and supervised RBTs, who have met the requirements set by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). Our supervising Behavior Technicians hold the Registered Behavior Technician designation. Our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) are the primary therapists responsible for assessment, treatment planning, program implementation, and overseeing the RBTs. All therapists undergo continuous professional development to ensure they are providing the highest quality care.
